2011 I had an unpleasant experience with Dr. Ricci. I am pregnant with my second child and was looking for an OB so I could give birth at Hoag. My first child was born at home and that was enough for Dr. Ricci to dislike me. I had never met with her before, but I can honestly say that she didn't even try to be personable. During the appointment, she was very rude when discussing my homebirth and attempted to draw many false conclusions. My placenta tore after my son was born and I hemmorhaged. Her comment was, 'I see you attempted a homebirth.' When I explained that he was, indeed, born at home and that I did not transfer to the hospital at all, her next comment was, 'Oh, then you must not have really hemmorhaged.' Well yes, my placenta did tear, I did hemmorhage and the midwife scraped my uterus out and did compressions right there on my bed. Her next comment, 'You must not have lost that much blood then.' Well, I am no physician, but a hemmorhage sort of speaks for itself. But here you go Dr. Ricci...3 days after my HEMMORHAGE, I saw a doctor and I had lost more than 30% of my blood. It really saddened me to be treated that way, especially because I was considering a hospital birth and I just wanted to be treated with the same respect that I give. I didn't argue, I didn't want to. But, when I left the office, she didn't even have the nurse schedule my next appointment. Point taken. Now, 2 months later, I am angry. No woman should treat another woman that way. Every woman deserves to have the birth she wants, and if things go wrong she should never be made to feel badly about it. Maybe, Dr. Ricci, you should consider that women are capable of a lot more than Western medicine gives us credit for.  Or maybe you should just consider that some women are just more capable than what you, as a woman, are capable of.

I think doctor Ricci is a great doctor. She delivered my last child and i was very happy with her. She probably wanted to convince you that home births are a dumb idea. However the office she works at in newport beach is a nightmare. Just trying to make an appointment is impossible. You cant talk to anyone so you leave a message and they never call you back. If you are lucky enough to get an appointment, it is canceled. Or you get there and and it is canceled, after you pay to park. Or you wait an hour and a half to see her. I had to get a new OBGYN at a different location.
