We found this Dr. to be confrontational, ingracious, oppositional, and downright brash when she treated my breast cancer. I have a Master's level Electrical Engineering degree and consider myself reasonably well read and intelligent especially as it relates to my breast cancer and subsequent radiation treatment for a local recurrance. This Dr. refused to have a dialog with me which was apparent even when we discussed my history at the onset. Due to an abnormal mugga scan I was referred to a Cardiologist who performed a CT scan of my heart. I told Dr. about the test and attempted to discuss the results with her and she insisted there was no such thing as a diagnostic CT scan of the heart. She tried to correct me and tell me I must have had an MRI and I had to correct her and tell her exactly what the procedure was. She always seems to have a half smile, sarcastic manner about her and was rude to my sister upon meeting her for the 3rd time. After finishing my radiation treatment recently without any break from work or the long commute, I told her I was too fatigued to commute and perform my work for a short period of time. When I asked her for a Dr's note she debated my need for any requested off time in front of the nursing station and haggled with me as one would with a child over having 4 days off, vs. 5 days off. I have had a recent fever caused my some breaking in my skin and was so relieved to know she would not be in when I go in for treatment for it. She isn't warm, appears not to give a crap, and again, doesn't talk. I experienced classic signs of radiation scatter markings on my opposite breast in the last weeks of my treatment. When I asked her to confirm/rule out the scatter markings she said it was impossible for scattering to occur and she had no explanation. I couldn't accept this answer in the interest of my best health so I called my old college professor @ Drexel U. and he referred me to his colleague at the Univ of PA Med Ctr who agreed to meet and examine me. Dr. Stiles confirmed my scatter markings, said she'd call Dr. W. with her findings, and she would suggest a simple test that could be done during my next treatment which later confirmed the scatter markings. Dr. W. seemed more resentful and is not interested in partnering with her patients in their care. I regret to say I feel she is out of touch with the experience of the intelligent, minority, cancer patient and has absolutely no idea how to relate to them other then to talk at them, rather then with them. I will never refer anyone I know to her for treatment and if I should require additional radiation oncology treatment, I will most certainly go elsewhere. And will tell 10 more people about this negative experience. There is no reason to speak with Dr. W. because I feel she is perfectly aware of what she's doing by the bemused look she wears when talking to her patients.
