2009 This is to all of the loyal Pman followers.  Dr. Perlman came highly recommended.  A close friend absolutly loved him.  I had a horrible experience with him.  Everything possible went wrong.  I have had 5 infections in which he gave me an ineffective antibodic which cause my wounds ALL OF THEM to open.  It has been 3 times as long as I was told it would be for recovery.  Oh did I menttion that I will be needing a skin graph (family doc and other surg recommended this).

Don't take my word for it research the doc you will find his license was suspended in MD because of drug use and he is on probation in DC.  There are also 4 malpractice settlements against him.

Just a warning.  STAY CLEAR!!!!!!!

First of all, after you did your research and found out that Dr Perlman had his license suspended, why did you have him do the surgery? Did you even bother to ask him about any of the allegations before you allowed him to treat you? I did my research 4 years ago BEFORE my surgery, spoke to various other doctors to see what their opinion was of Dr Perlman and then confronted Dr Perlman with questions I needed answered. I was so satisfied with his answers that I not only had the scheduled surgery performed a week later, I had additional surgeries performed a year after that!

For every one patient who is dissatisfied with Dr Perlman, there are hundreds who are satisfied- you can't please everyone. Infections do occur, antibiotics treat infections but some are better than others. Each person is different and recovery times will vary. There is a reason that Dr Perlman has been performing surgeries for so many years...

By the way, maybe you should re-read and edit your comments for spelling mistakes before sending them out!

Well first of all I just found this information out like yesterday.  OF COURSE I would not let an incompetent doc like him hold my life in his hands if I had known this.  I did research on him and found nothing neg. until I paid to do a record search after the fact.  I'm so glad that you have had such wonderful experiences with him but so sad for me that I AM THE 1 in 100 that he was high or whatever when he performed the surg.  But hey want is 1 out of 100.  How would u feel if you were the 1 our of 100????  Well I'm not too happy and have a gapping hole in my stomach to prove his incompentence.  Yes everyone makes mistakes but bottom line is his license was TAKEN because he lied, took drugs, and endangered his patients.  He did not take responsibility for his actions but simply moved his practice to DC.  I'm sure he was very honest about all of this though cause you asked him.  What would he have to gain by lying?  HMMM $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Perlman is very charming and does have a good bedside manner but he SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw hope my grammar is perfect this time cause I lost sleep over not having perfect grammar/spelling on a BLOG!!

Not to upset you further bella0805, but the doctor is not the one that gave you the infection. The hospital or medical facility where you had the surgery is where the infection came from. So before you go pointing angry fingers look where you are pointing first. As for suggesting that Dr. Perlman was 'high or whatever' are you sure you want to put those accusations out there? That is a pretty bold statement and slander if incorrect. I understand you are quite upset having to deal with open wounds and infection (trust me I see it here) but  do you honestly think Dr. Perlman would be performing surgery  and still have a license anywhere if the medical board thought for one moment he was incapable? Given that it was 8 years ago I think its time to move on. I know he has. Hes an excellent surgeon and you can ask anyone who works with or knows him. I wish you a quick recovery, its tough now but it will get better!

To ladyD & SarahNIH:

You are ridiculously and blatantly wrong!!!  I support the written feedback on this site by bella0805, TommysGirl & July777 -- recent patients whom Dr. Perlman has terribly injured -- all the way!!!!!  Bella has gaping holes and tunnels because Dr. Perlman was and is higher than a kite!!!  His speech is slurred and his eyes are bloodshot both in the office and in the surgical room!!!  And, SarahNIH, Dr. Perlman can and did conceivably give Bella her infections -- by not sanitizing his hands, following proper protocol, etc. because he was and is addicted to drugs and alcohol.  Your accusing the hospital right off the bat without the facts is very short-sighted and incorrect.  The statistics are certainly much higher than 1 in 100 for his screw ups -- I would approximate 1 in 5 these days if not higher, and I am sure the percentages have been consistently high in the past.  A lot of very injured patients don't even come forward!!!!  So, the negative feedback on this site is certainly just the tip of iceberg.  As for the medical boards, absolutely they would let someone like Dr. Perlman slip through the cracks because even though they are so-called 'monitoring' Dr. Perlman, his personality is like a used car salesman, and he could very plausibly and must be lying to cover up his substance abuse problems.  Although he has a good bedside manner, he is an extremely short, money hungry Dr. who lies to keep his practice going.  While it is sad that he has an addiction to both drugs and alcohol, it is far worse and downright unethical that he is injuring people needlessly all because his quest for money exceeds his ability to admit that he has a career-ending substance abuse problem (ever since 1989 in fact).  If one researches his history in HealthGrades online, his profile is downright scary!  One will see years of Dr. Perlman being cited for medical violations -- drug and alcohol problems and lawsuit settlements in Maryland, Va. and D.C.  For a Dr. to get his license taken away as it was for Dr. Perlman in Maryland, is extremely serious and hard to do.  The fact that Va. & D.C. have him on probation and are monitoring him as well is very serious; however, the medical boards have failed to do their jobs in these jurisdictions.  They should have kicked him out as well.  If there is still a drug problem, which is there cleary is, the answer should be -- 'See ya!!!'  All the negative feedback on this site from botched rhinoplasties/nosejobs, boob jobs, tummy tucks, a drooping eye, an unnecessary excisement of a blocked hair-follicle induced bump and consequential cut nerves, to botched liposuctions, etc. are intolerable and unacceptable.  The medical boards should be blamed too for not properly policing Dr. Perlman and (other Drs. for that matter) thereby placing patients' health and lives at risk.  All these tragedies could have been spared!!!!  Dr. Perlman is going to end up in jail for killing someone if he continues to operate under the influence.  Having a license taken away is a much better option!!  The medical boards need to do their jobs!!!  That's right!!!  It has been and is this serious!!!!

Comments by bella0805 on 09/26/09, 11:14 pm

Of course I know that Perlman did not cause my infection.  Infection is a risk with any type of surg.  The problem is my infection was not treated with the correct antibiotic because a culture of the wound was not taken.  It was not until I found a competent doc that cultured it and got he correct antibiotic.  By then the damage was done by all of the drainage of the infection.

BTW  I saw another plastic surg on Friday in Frederick MD and was told that the technique used in my surg. was not incorrect by very old school at least 8 yrs out of date.  Let me quote the doc I saw on Friday 'Well when a doctor performs many procedures he is bound to have some that come out well'.  Needless to say this doc did not have high regards for Perlman.  Even though I think this new doctor is good my experience has caused me to shy away from PS altogether.

I think it is pretty sad that doctors can simply go to a new state and practice.  I know that people make mistakes but it is simply unacceptable for someone to abuse drugs when they hold someone's life in their hands regardless if it's the past it is CRAZY!!!

Thanks so much for you good wishes.  I am a very strong woman and will continue to improve thanks to God and my excellent docs that are treating me now!!

Dr Perlman has operated on me and other family members and numerous friends and acquaintences.  Everyone I know was thrilled with the outcome, (though no one had an unfortunate complication like you)  I can factually state that the above allegations are completely untrue about current drug or alcohol use.  They are slanderous and unfair.  It's unfortunate that you had a complication.  It's beyond any dignity that you and your friends or family maliciously slander and defame an excellent surgeon anonymously on the internet.   It's libel.  You have NO factual knowledge of current drug or alcohol use but direct your anger over a complication by attacking his character and sobriety.  Shame on you.  It's also disturbing that this website is complicit in your attack by not allowing the thousands of very happy patients and family members to post their own stories of fabulous results and NO complications.  (It is currently blocked from new posts) The webmanager  needs to remedy that immediately.  To anyone thinking about using information from sites like this about ANY surgeon or Doctor:  Remember these boards only tend to reflect the infrequent but very vocal few who aren't happy.  They reflect one person's experience  - frequently magnified by their friends and family.   Everyone else moves on with their life without thinking to post their favorable comments.

Comments by stayawayfromperlman! on 09/29/09, 8:34 pm

No, thrilled patient, you are wrong.  Dr. Perlman's history is posted on HealthGrades if you research him.  Take this in conjunction with the fact that a lot of patients are currently getting very injured plus the CURRENT observations of his apprearance and speech, which show signs of plausible, current substance abuses.  Additionally, a talented surgeon would not be making so many serious mistakes.  The main duty is to protect patients and potential patients.  One must inform and warn others before they can move on with their lives -- and to hopefully begin to heal.  The consequences are so grave and risky that everyone should be informed of the negatives of Dr. Perlman and not just any positives.  Contrary to what you stated, this website has actually been interestingly skewed too much in the positive direction.  And, whenever someone such as bella0805 has posted an authentic, negative experience, defensive comments would be submitted immediately saying something is 'wrong' with people having the negative experiences.  [Note:  Previously, one could not post additional comments on this board because a message read that 'The Doctor (i.e. Dr. Perlman) was suspected of suspicious activity on this site.]

Honey slander is a statement that is not true.  The facts are public record.  I never stated that he is still using drugs. You need to read more carefully next time darling.  As far as unsuccessful surgery I can send you pics of my mutilated body with gapping holes. You interested???

Comments by DrPearlmanBeware on 11/06/09, 1:14 pm

I recently have had cosmetic surgery with Dr. Pearlman as he came highly recommend by someone I knew. Had I of known or done a little digging I would have never jeopardized my body or life like I have. Dr. Pearlman conducted a surgery on me, which left my body distorted. I spent thousands to have this procedure and only to be left mutilated and broke. I spent so much money to have this procedure only left to feel embarrassed and ashamed at how I look. I wish I had know all of this before I had my surgery, but I will certainly be writing the medical boards and will be consulting with attorney's on my legal actions against him.
Dr. Pearlman is incompetent surgeon who should not be practicing anywhere!
Does anyone know of a good surgeon? I need to find a competent plastic surgeon to fix what Dr. Pearlman has done to me.

Comments by ladyD on 11/06/09, 3:07 pm

Dr Perlman's name is not spelled Pearlman. Do you think that anyone can take you seriously when you can't even spell the doctor's name correctly? You also forgot to re-read your comments because you have made a bunch of mistakes. Did you go to school with Bella0805? How could you allow a doctor (any doctor) to perform a surgical procedure on you without checking him out first? I checked his background, spoke with other medical professionals and then spoke with him before I allowed him to perform any of the many procedures I had. The whole problem with the alleged 'drugs and/or alcohol' is long gone. He admitted he once had a problem, sought help, recovered and voluntarily closed his other offices. Should he be punished the rest of his career for something which occurred years ago? Dr. Perlman voluntarily has substance abuse testing performed currently, which not only proves that he is 'clean' but also shows how dedicated to his profession he is. It is unfortunate that you did not get the results you were looking for. I can understand your frustration after spending a lot of money and not being happy with the results. I state again that for the hundreds of patients who were and are happy with their surgical results, there of course will be some who are not satisfied. The patients who have had a negative experience will always be the outspoken ones. People don't usually commend doctors on the great job they've done, but rather criticize when they are not happy.

ladyD,

You must cease and desist from criticizing victims of Dr. Perlman's gross negligence for any misspellings or grammatical errors they make.  Back off!  You must either be Dr. Perlman yourself or a member of his office!  Also, SarahNIH is either Dr. Perlman or a member of his office.  This website has already noted that Dr. Perlman is guilty of 'suspicious activity.'

The evidence is resounding and clear:  Dr. Perlman needs to retire or be stopped from practicing!!!!  He has grossly injured at least 4 patients just since this summer.  His substance abuse is alive and well too.  Otherwise, he would not be committing such egregious medical errors unless he is just extremely burned out and fried.  Rather, it is probably a combination of these two factors -- continued drug and alcohol usage and burnout.  This problem is not 'long gone' as you stated, but is 'alive and destroying.'

At least 1 out of 2 of Dr. Perlman's patients is getting harmed and mutilated these days.  And, if you visit his office, there are not 'hundreds' of patients there.  In fact, there rarely is anyone there in the lobby.

As for this website, few patients even post comments and they have fictitiously been posted in the positive direction counter to what you wrote.  Now, patients whose lives have been severely damaged and destroyed by Dr. Perlman's medical malpractice, are now coming forward and you will read about their devasting results.  The word is out.  Potential patients and the medical boards need to be warned, and Dr. Perlman needs to quit practicing medicine and get help.

Ok I did  not realize I was 'being graded and scrutinized' on being grammatically correct. Seriously, this is a blog for people to discuss Dr Perlman's incompetence as a plastic surgeon. One might raise the question on why you are so admit about defending him? Perhaps, you are Dr. Perlman or a member of his staff?

I believe I have a legitimate issue, so therefore I will express my dissatisfaction about his incompetence as a plastic surgeon. Now once again, I was unaware of Dr Perlman's drug addiction's and the fact he is currently on probation. Apparently, this doctor has had issues stemming back to the early 90's with drug's and alcohol abuse. I have recently discovered that certain hospitals have denied him admitting privileges into their hospitals because of his negligence. The hospitals see him as a huge liability, which is why he cannot practice at these hospitals. Also, Dr. Perlman has had 4 claims he has paid out over the course of 4 yrs. Now I have looked up other plastic surgeons and have not encountered so many claims to be paid out.

What does this say about his competence? The facts speak for themselves!!

Here are a few useful links for those who are considering Dr Perlman. I would suggest you take a look at the cold hard facts and base your decision on if wheather you feel a doctor with this in their back ground is suitable to operate on you.

I certainly would  not of chosen him if only I had done my research. There are many plastic surgeon's in the area without a shady past.

Why would one want to risk their body or life in the hands of a surgeon who has all this in their background?

They would not if they knew.

DrPerlmanBeware-
Thanks for the links!! I wish I had done my research before my surg as well. But sometimes you learn the hard way. You are right about the facts speaking for themselves. I'm sorry for what you have been and are still going through. I have been perm. scarred as well.  I'm working with a caring, competent plastic surgeon and am hopeful that he can fix all the damage that has been done to my body.  Hopefully these postings will help others that are considering plastic surg. with Perlman.  Take care of yourself!!!!
