After a failed prostate Thermatrx microwaving procedure by my original urologist, I was offered what I thought was a 'complimentary' TARGIS one by this uroloigst's practice in Opelika, Alabama as a 'thank-you' to me when I took on Blue Cross for not adequately covering this type of procedure for men in ALabama (we were the only state to not properly fund it) Funding finally came for all and I accepted the offer for treatment. I traveled there from some distance away and never saw the urologist except once in passing in the hall and then once when he came in the treatment room to see me. ALL the PROCEDURE was done by a very nice, well informed man there who was neither an R.N. or an L.P.N.--I learned that he had been trained on the job in a hospital and at that practice but had no formal training at all. The protocal for the procedure I had was that only a Urologist is to do it and should be in attendance at ALL TIMES duirng the hour long procedure. As I said, Dr. Rajan was NEVER there other than the once brief entry in the treatment room after the procedure was well under way. I also did NOT see him at the conclusion of it. Despite thinking it was a complimentary procedure because the microwave catheter had been donated by TARGIS, my insurance was billed about $1,500 (which they paid)..I did not do a co-pay on this and I'm sure the nice man who did the entire procedure was not paid $1,500 for his total couple of hours spent with me. If I had it to do over again, I would NOT have allowed this to happen to me. The treament did not improve my BPH and I ended up with surgery that was suposed to 'FIX' me but did not either. It was followed by 4 additional operations-- and problems continue. Dr. Rajan seemed like a nice man but the fact that he did NONE of the procedure on me, despite an FDA notice that he should have been in attendance at all times would make me not ever want to be a patient there again.
