My 3 children were patients of Renu Chandra for at least 2 years. In the beginning this doctor seemed very caring and thorough in regard to examinations. During my last visit this doctor's demeanor was rude and disrespectful and some of her evaluations did not seem consistent. One of the first issues I had with this doctor was her complaint that my insurance United Health Care did not pay her claims. The insurance that I have is not the same insurance that I had when I originally brought my kids to her 2 years ago and she had never submitted any claims on my new insurance before. I let her know that her name was on the directory and that she could refuse the insurance if she preferred. It seems her attitude began to sour when she saw my insurance. Later on in the visit this doctor insisted that my 2 other children 3 & 4 years old stay in the room while my 2 year old was given a 2 vaccinations. Because my 2 other children had to watch my 2 year old's reaction which was screaming, and fighting to get away- my children immediately became afraid of the doctor and would not interact with her. The only effort that Dr. Chandra made in interacting with my children consisted of getting in their faces, raising her voice (like a tone used to scold a child), and waiving a lollipop in their faces for 10 seconds. My children were too afraid of her to take the lollipops therefore they did not interact with her. My 2 year old stopped making eye contact, so the doctor diagnosed her as possibly autistic. My 3 year old shut her eyes and turned her head away from the doctor, so the doctor insisted that I get my 3 year old's vision checked (really doesn't make sense). I did nothing but listen during the appointment, hoping to maintain a level a professionalism. All professionalism went out of the window when the doctor confronted my children's grandmother in the waiting room and demanded answers for why the children wouldn't interact. The doctor automatically began to suggest that my children's grandmother was lying and she made the comment that my 3 children were delayed in development and insinuated that my children's grandmother and I were neglectful caregivers to the children. The doctor never took into account that her own demeanor and impatience contributed greatly to my children's behavior on that visit. After being disrespected in the doctor's waiting room (she didn't even have the professionalism to bring us into an examining room and make her comments) we left the office and made an appointment with another doctor for a second opinion. The second doctor told us that Dr. Chandra's evaluations and diagnosis was very 'flawed and grossly incorrect'. Thank you for reading about the experience we had with this doctor. Dr. Renu Chandra may very well be a decent doctor but I believe that she is not a suitable doctor for my children. She lacks many qualities that I feel children need in a doctor and I will not be returning to her under any circumstances. |
