2009 |
On June 12, 2009, I went to Gulf Coast Dermatology to seek treatment for a rash I received while working in the garden. I was seen at 9:15am by Nichol Raulerson, Physican Assistant to Dr.Ward. Mrs.Raulerson was rude from the start of the office visit. She was very short with me. Mrs.Raulerson did not seem like she had time to answer my questions about tanning beds, a few moles I had concerns about and could not tell me what type of rash I had. I was just told I had a rash, which I already knew, and that medicine would be called in for me. We discussed which pharmacy and Mrs.Raulerson said the perscription would be ready soon for pick up. A few hours later I went to pick up my perscription and it was not called in. I called Gulf Coast Dermatology to tell them that the pharmacy never received a call from their office regarding a 12 day steriod pack. I was then told that Mrs.Raulerson was not in the office. She was working from home and the office staff said they would contact her so she could call in my perscription and they would give her my cell number so she could call me after my perscription was called in. I waited at the pharmacy for 30 minutes. During this time, there was no call into the pharmacy from Mrs.Raulerson. I called Gulf Coast Dermatology again and the office staff told me the same thing, Mrs.Raulerson was working from home and they would leave another message for her. The staff pulled my file at this point and said that no perscription was ever written down. I explained again who I was, giving them details on why I came in and what I was supposed to be getting from the pharmacy. I asked again to have Mrs.Raulerson call in the persrciption and gave the office staff the pharmacy address, phone number as well as fax number in case Mrs.Raulerson did not have it at her home. I continued to wait at the pharmacy for over 2 hours and continued to call Gulf Coast Dermatology to have my perscription filled. After all this time, Gulf Coast Dermatology closed for the weekend and my perscription was never called in. In addition, I was never contacted by Mrs.Raulerson despite my several attempts to simply have my perscription filled. I got much worse that Friday afternoon and the weekend was horrendous. I did not sleep the entire weekend due to the pain of open sores and the itching. I went to the emergency clinic on Sunday (June 14th) and was finally given the medicine I so desperately needed. I was also given a shot due to the severity of my rash. It had spread from a few bumps on my arms and a red spot on my neck to all over my body!! On Monday, June 15th, I called Gulf Coast Dermatology at 7am when they opened and told the office staff what happened and asked to see Dr.Ward. I wanted to let him know the way I was treated and thought he would be concerned about his patients' well being as well. At this time, I was given an appointment the same day at 10:15am. Not soon afterward this call to set up an appointment with Dr.Ward, I recieved 3 calls from the office staff letting me know that Dr.Ward did not want to see me nor did Mrs.Raulerson. The office staff said they had other sick patients to see and had no time for me. I was not welcome there!! I told them I would be coming in to pick up my medical records and I would like documentation of what transpired from Friday through Monday. I was told I could come pick this information up at 2pm. When I got there at 3:30pm, my paperwork was not ready. I did not receive a phone call telling me to come at another time to pick up my records when they would be ready. I live 20 minutes a way from the office and it was a huge inconvenience to go pick up my records that were not even ready. I also asked for my $20.00 co-pay back. Mrs.Raulerson refused to give my co-pay back due to 'services recieved'. Although, I had a rash all over my body, whereas if I would have had my medicine on Friday as stated by Mrs.Raulerson, this rash would not have spread this violently!! |
