I commend Dr. Warner for his frankness and no frills approach. Right away he gets to the root of the problem and offers options for treatment with their specific risks. I visited him first in Apr. '09 on suspicion of prostate cancer. He examined me thoroughly and sent me to St. Paul's for a May 10th biopsy that came back positive for cancer in 2 of 8 samples. I chose to undergo a prostatectomy that was performed by Dr. Warner in July. I breezed through the surgery and recovered well in less than a month, having better urinary function than I had 20 years earlier. Regrettably, I was left virtually impotent, though I am able to enjoy normal sexual relations through drug injections covered by my extended health plan. A common complaint of Dr. Warner's patients is longer waiting times, his relative absence of small talk and the short face-to-face time. People need to understand that there is only 1 urologist in BC for every 97K citizens. Compare that with 1 for 25K citizens in the USA. If Dr. Warner seems hurried, then don't blame him but instead, our lousy medical system. When you have up to 90 patients a day coming in, don't expect a 'bedside manner.' I rate Dr. Warner high in surgical competence and in laying out the bare facts well in advance. To his credit, I completely understood all the risks associated with the surgery and so there was no surprise when things didn't work out 100%.
