1976 I was born at great lakes naval hospital in 1976. Today I am 41 yrs old. My mother had to have a cecerian section and my head was sliced in the process. My parents was told the scar would never show, but until this day I am ashamed of wearing low haircuts.

Not given Hi There:
I first met Jan Fruiterman I could tell he was a cold doctor. I know he was/is an OB but my appoint was through sub ox one clinic. When I called to make the appointment I was told since I was transferring from another doctor, I could skip the $150 visit with 2 week follow up and just pay $225 for a month. I get to the office then im told its up to the doctor. Well, I gave a clean urine and explained I had been clean 2 years. His response to me he is the doctor and that's his call. I get that part but what did he really want from me was my MONEY!!! I Have seen many doctors and he is ONLY about the $$$$$$$$!!!!! He is cold and if you want a good Dr go to Dr.Lee and Dr.Hyatt in Manassas. Hope this help you not become a victim of a money and he's not even friendly.

I was too young to know better and he was my first gyno - he delivered by first child by c-section after letting me push one time. He was tired and just wanted to deliver my baby and leave.  He was rude.

I switched physicians and delivered my other 2 children just fine. He was definately inappropriate now that I look back.  he also had the louvered doors in the changing area hung backwards so you could see straight in. I told him this and he just laughed!  He touched inappropriatly and asked personal questions about oral sex that were irrelevant to my treatment.

I have continued to hear comments about Dr. Fruiterman from staff at the hospital where he worked, the staff could not stand him and he apparently did unspeakable things in the parking lot.

Dr. Fruiterman prescribed me Estrostep birth control in July 06.  I took the medication for one year, and during this year I experienced extremely bad side effects.  I had uncontrollable panic and anxiety attacks, up to 3 a day.  This is something I had never experienced until I took the medication.  I researched this med online and a lot of users experienced the same anxiety side effects.

I went into Dr. Fruiterman's office a year later discussing the side effects and wanting to change to a new birth control.  He looked at me like I was stupid and said 'No honey, theres no connection between your birth control and anxiety attacks.  You must have deeper issues and need to go see a shrink for a few months'.

I told him no the birth control was the reason and then he persisted to ask me very intimate questions about my personal life.  Example, if i had ever been raped before.  This angered me so I decided to leave and give up on trying to get new medicine.

Two months later I called the office to try to talk to someone else about new medication, and was told I could not get new medication because my record sheet said I needed to see a shrink.  And because I had not, they could not change it for me,  After arguing with them, I finally got them to let me switch to Yaz, which I heard is for PMS symptoms and depression, which I do not have any signs of.

Also, when he examined me, he touched my clitoris during the exam and wiped me off afterwards.  I am glad that he is retired (probably because he has been sued so many times his insurance dropped him) but now I can see a doctor who is appropriately trained.

I can not believe that so many people have had such horrible experience with Dr. Fruiterman. Actually, now that I think about it I can.  I've been going to his office for several years and have had my two children delivered by him and Dr. Solos.  She seemed fine, I actually wished she was closer so that I could coninue to see her. Dr. F on the other hand was extremely rude, constantly condescending and very sarcastic. He actually told me that I was a good canditate for post partum depression with my second child while I was in my 30th week. I found the comment kind of odd since I never thought I showed or had any signs to encourage his remark.  I had switched jobs during the middle of my pregnancy and had tried to get added onto my husbands insurance, Dr. F told me that if I didn't pay everything in cash up front he would have to refer me to a women's clinic. Mind you that I have been going to his office for over ten years. To make the long story short, I had to pay out of pocket and $2300, and my insurance company had also paid them, once I was added on to my husbands coverage.   It has been over two and a half months and I still I have not been reimbursed by the Dr. and now they are closed.

I am as shocked as everyone else.  I just called his office to receive copies of my records and was shocked the Burke location was closed.  Had no idea what happened until coming onto this site.  Does anyone know where the mammograms were done for him in Fair Lakes?  A few years ago I had them done and cannot recall the location.  Thanks!

I inadvertently came across this website thru Google and am so happy I did. Reading all these comments about Dr. Fruiterman only supported how I was feeling and what I've gone through as a patient of his for the past 5 years. Dr. Fruiterman delivered two of my three children, and while both deliveries went relatively smoothly, anything less would've been better than the delivery of my first child at another practice! Regardless, my initial impression of Dr. Fruiterman was that he is very pragmatic and to the point which I tend to like with people anyhow. But his humor is tasteless and he cannot take a joke when he is the brunt of it. I also always had to wait an hour or more to see him and have even been switched to see Dr. Lockett during my visit because he was not suddenly available. I always felt rushed when he was in the room and felt like I had to have my questions ready ahead of time because he always had one foot out the door. With my second child, everyone was very kind and attentive to me, but I think it was because I was paying out of pocket for that. The third child I had insurance coverage and their attitudes toward me were much different. A couple of times he started his examinations before the nurse even got into to the room and he would breathe heavy while examining my breasts. I experienced the same thing where he put his thumb on my clitoris and rubbed my labia as well. He made inappropriate comments on my shaving hygiene by recommending I use cocoa butter on my razor bumps. He also would stand directly between my legs after my examinations to talk with me (I could feel his breath on my face!) as I sat at the end of the table undressed from the waist down. He also took liberties to wipe me off after the exam as well. He tended to talk about himself alot. When I was 17 weeks pregnant with my third child, I fell down the stairs. I called the after hours line and Dr. Lockett was on call. She did not return my call until 5 hours later only to tell me just to go to the hospital. Luckily, everything was okay. The nurses at the hospital told me he is not very popular with them because he is so condescending toward them. I witnessed that firsthand. I saw him berate a nurse at his office once for not having the machine for listening to the baby's heartbeat on hand. Some of his staff was friendly but I never felt like they were organized. The last time I showed up for an appointment, they claimed they didn't have me on the schedule and tried to 'squeeze me in.' After 30 minutes in the waiting room and 30 minutes sitting half naked in the examination room and still no doctor, I got dressed and left. When I explained to the staff at the front desk why I was leaving, they were unapologetic and didn't seem to really care that I had been waiting so long. It almost seemed as if they were used to that sort of thing. And now, after reading all these commentaries, I see that is exactly what it is! I've already switched practices and would never recommend Dr. Fruiterman's practice to anyone.

I heard that Dr. Fruiterman is retiring and closing his office next month. I'm so glad he won't be able to molest or misdiagnose anyone else.

Dr. Lockett-Benjamin is apparently leaving private practice and going to Woodbridge Hospital.

I have been a patient for about 7 years and had three of my children while one.Two of which Dr Fruiterman delivered and one Dr. Solos because I did not want to see Dr. Fruiterman after he delivered my third child without any gloves on his hands!!! He was in a rush all the time and with my third child I went natural so the pushing was a little harder because I could feel everything,  he got inpatient after only about five pushes and takes off his gloves and starts touching paperwork. Well to his surprise my daughter was coming quickly so he delivered her without any gloves, because of being inpatient and in a rush. I never went back to him after that. Dr. Solos was much better.

2004-2006 Both of my children were delivered by this practice in 2004 and again in 2006, thankfully by Dr. Solos.  I did see Dr. Fruiterman several times during both pregnancies.  He has a terrible bedside manner and is very condescending.  He asks inappropriate and unrelated questions and acts is if they are humorous.  However, the reason for my posting is in relation to the birth our my first child in 2004.  I was induced with my first pregnancy and Dr. Fruiterman started the induction.  It was a really terrible experience.  We asked him questions as he was beginning the induction and his response was something to the effect of 'what kind of an uneducated person would come to the hospital to have a baby and still have unanswered questions'.  He then proceeded to attach to monitor to our son's head, which he had to do twice, because he didn't get it right the first time.  Our son's heart rate plummeted, and when we panicked and asked questions, Dr. Fruiterman actually dared my husband and I to get up and leave and come back later and have a hospital appointed physician deliver our son.  I think Dr. Solos is fantastic and very attentive, and I have switched to her new practice.

2007 Dr. Fruiterman seemed decent enough to me at first, as I went to him for several appointments during a pregnancy that ended in miscarriage. His office staff is extremely nice and professional, and it is easy to get an appointment with him. He did repeatedly make comments including 'miscarriage is nature's quality control' and 'at least we do better than cows! Cows miscarry 50% of the time!' -- two comments that did NOT make me feel better. And at times I waited an hour past my appointment in the waiting room. But neither issues would have prompted me to post here.

During the appointment in which he confirmed the miscarriage and recommended a D&C, Dr. Fruiterman did a vaginal exam. During this exam, he placed his thumb on my clitoris for several seconds and pressed down. He also ran his finger along my labia. I was so devastated about losing the baby that I didn't react when it was happening, and the nurse in the room clearly didn't notice. It was only moments later that I realized what had happened. This was highly inappropriate behavior. Up until that point, the only strange thing he had done is he actually wiped me off after each exam (typically women wipe themselves off -- I'm 33 and have been going to the GYN for a long time ... this is the first time anyone has done any of these things).

After my D&C, I refused to see Dr. Fruiterman again, and saw his associate, Dr. Lockett. She was very professional, stating, 'this is the back of my hand... this is the speculum' -- the way my past GYNs have done. She also allowed me to wipe myself off.

I am not planning to make a legal complaint about this, because it will be 'me vs. him' and there was a nurse in the room (who wasn't paying attention). I am planning to file an anonymous complaint with the AMA or another authority. But I think it's terribly important that this be posted -- I keep thinking of the moms who might take their teenage daughters to Dr. Fruiterman. The teenagers might not even realize that clitoral contact is completely inappropriate, and I needed to post this in case it would prevent any of them from being touched inappropriately.

I have heard a lot of doctors, health workers complain about his

incompetence. Years ago I went to him for spotting. He

misdiagnosed the condition, gave me lots of hormones and I ended up bleeding profusely

and having a hysterectomy. 'Let's take the sucker out', he said. I

never had any more kids after my only daughter. Needless to say, I

went to another doctor to have my uterus out. I have regretted this forever, taking out my uterus at such a young age and the results to my health because of this. Since then I have

heard a lot about his incompetence from other docs and patients. I am surprised he still around and practices. I wish him nothing well.

I do not question Dr Fruiterman's experience in the OBGYN field.  What I do not like about him is his attitude towards his patients and nurses.  As a doctor, he should make himself available to his patients for questions and concerns but he makes you feel like he does not want to be bothered for emergency calls or questions.  He can be very condescending, sarcastic and unprofessional.  I am writing this comment to help patients make an educated decision to choose the right OBGYN and also to give Dr Fruiterman honest feedback so he can improve.  I have moved to Dr Solos-Kountouris' practice and I am very happy.

Not given Although my experience with Dr. Fruiterman was not as traumatizing as the review I just read, I have to agree that he has no bed side manner what so ever. I was actually a patient of Dr. Solos, whom I loved, but got stuck with Fruiterman one day because Dr. Solos had a patient in delivery. Dr. Fruiterman is one of these doctors that likes to invite you into his office after the exam rather than talk to you in the exam room. He then proceeded to sit behind his enormous desk and lecture me from behind it like a principal. He´s a horrible little man from the good ol boys school of doctoring.

Not given We found out we were expecting our first child. We went in for all the normal appts. We loved his two partners Dr Solos and Dr. Lockett. We were going in for the 20 week sonogram, our appt was at 1030, we didn't even see him until almost 1230 and he told there was a problem but he had no idea what it was. So he sent us to a specialist who determined the baby could not survive. Long story short I lost the baby a week later on April 1st. He was the doctor on call at the hospital the Saturday I was in there. He never once came to see how we were doing. Then when I came in for my follow up (the autopsy was back) he started saying all this stuff about how it was nueral tube defects and it could be this and it could be that. Well I learned later when I recd a copy of the autopsy that it stated in there it was most certainly not any of the things he had listed. So he gave me totally wrong information. Well we found out we were pregnant in June it was a surprise but not an unpleasant one. He told me I could have always come in for the morning after pill. When I told him I thought I had a UTI (urinary tract infection EXTREMELY common in pregnant women), he said there was no way and refused to test me for it. At that point I found a new dr. who I LOVE. He tested me for one and you know what? I had one. Now it has progressed to a kidney infection because it was not treated soon enough. Dr. Fruiterman has the worst bedside manner on the planet. I hate him.

I went in for a personal reason and he (Mr Fruiterman) I don't even know why he calls himself a doctor, didn't even care..didn't even look at the area correctly and did not ask me any questions to even know what the problem is. I called the office to ask for his partner Dr. Solos which was outstanding. She was my original doctor and I asked them where she went. No Answer. They refused to. He is not qualified as a doctor just like a lot of other doctors that all they care about is getting their money by making you visit 10 times and tell you as much as 1 visit. Shame.

For the person that needs Dr Solos info, here is her phone number:  703-378-8994.  I think it's rediculous that Dr Fruiterman's office is making the patient suffer because of some personal feud.  That shouldn't be our problem.

Dr Solos is quite possibly the best GYN out there.  However, since this split of the two practices, I do have to say I'm extreemly upset with the way they are handling their patients.  I have a yeast infection.  The first time I can get in to see the Dr is 2 weeks from now (first Saturday appointment available).  That doesn't really help me a whole lot.  The docotors used to just call in an Rx for me (as I'm allergic to the over-the-counter).  Now, they won't do that - they require me to come see the doctor first.  Are you kidding me?  A yeast infection?  Two weeks?  I'll be getting my medical records (which Dr Fruiterman's office has made no question about letting me know it's going to take several weeks) and finding another doctor all together.  I won't be in a situation with a doctor where I can't call in and get an Rx like this when I need it.  The pharmacist was appauled after I explained the story.  They also suggested I find a new doctor.

Dr. Fruiterman was my doctor 22 years ago.  This was to be my first baby and I was 10 days overdue.  After calling his office five times because of bad stomach pains Dr. Fruiterman FINALLY called me back and told me to take my temperature.  It was 104.5.  He told me to rush to Fairfax Hospital.  Here I was in Arcola Virginia, my husband was at work and I was in too much pain to drive.  My mother picked me up and took me to the hospital.  My baby by this time was in distress and died six days after delivering.  But during the six days Dr. Fruiterman, instead of trying to soothe my parents and myself, he told my mother that the baby should have been stillborn.  What kind of a thing is this to tell someone?

I NEVER from that time forward have gone back to him.  Nor would I EVER suggest anyone go to him.

I went to this practice in 2001 when I was pregnant with my first child. Dr. Fruiterman's bedside manner was terribly. He completely ignored any of my concerns and was very brusque. But he seemed competent medically, so I stayed with the practice. My pregnancy and delivery were uncomplicated and everything was fine. Dr. Solos, though, was much better to see for office visits as she took the time to listen to my concerns.

When I got pregnant again in 2006, I again returned to this practice. Same problem. Dr. Fruiterman always seemed rushed, but Dr. Solos seemed geniunely interested and engaged.

In sort of a fortunate turn of events, I found out that the practice no longer accepted my insurance for obstetrical care, and  I switched to a different practice that I was much happier with.

I discourage anyone from seeing Dr. Fruiterman when I hear them mention his name.

Ever since Dr. Solos left, I have been extremely disappointed with Dr. Fruiterman.  I met with Dr. Benjamin once and then she went out on maternity leave.  I had testing performed and Dr. Fruiterman went over the results with me.  He was very condescending and mostly talked about himself.  Then he proceeded to tell me that African American women were never known to have endometriosis and he only believed it when he saw patients during his city internship. It was like he didn't believe that I had the disease just because I am African american.  I called a couple of weeks ago to report another incident of extreme pelvic pain (he has suggested a hysterectomy to 'rip it all out').. and the nurse told me to take motrin and use a heating pad (like I hadn't already tried that).  I find the office to be extremely unprofessional and I can't wait to transfer to another practice.  I wish Dr. Solos was closer.

Anyone know why Dr. Solos left the practice?

Dr. Solos left because she wanted Dr. F. to fire Dr. B, and retire, leaving the practice to her.

Someone should seriously get this guy's medical licence taken away from him. He needs to be shutdown, or at least sued for large amounts of money, (hit him where it hurts the most right?)

I feel for all you patients. I have a job where I do have to talk to him much more than I would like to b/c he is an AHOLE to say the least.

Please ladies find a better OBGYN doctor, this man can do no good. Take care.

My computer is slow, so I don't know if this posted already...I have been feeling uneasy with my last appointment so I thought I would look up this Dr to see if there were any comments on the internet about him.  And voila! My instincts were right.

I was just telling a retired nurse friend I have at work about the same experience I had a few weeks ago!  I told her he started to examine me without a nurse in the room.  He pressed his pelvis against me and then he was breathing a bit heavily during the breast exam.  I told her, 'I just felt like he was getting strange or something.'

I was waiting for him because I forgot to get a prescription refilled after I walked out. He finally walked out of the bathroom.  Hmmmm....he was in there for several minutes.  Just another thing that made me go hmmmm.  But I can't speculate and have no proof...so move onward...

He did have the nurse in there during the pelvic exam, but I did a 'hmmm.' after the appointment. And yes, he did wipe after the exam, and I paused thinking, 'I don't remember a doctor doing that...hmmm...'  Yes, I thought he brushed against my clitoris, I never felt anyone touch that before during an exam.  The whole thing was odd...and I did tell a friend after I went how odd it was...Well, that was a few months ago and you can see I was thinking about it at 11PM at night wondering if something was wrong with him....So I did a google search. I just called my mom to say, 'See, I told you I felt like something was wrong!'

He made the SAME comment about my shaving bumps but I think he recommended aloe vera to me...I mentioned this to a friend how odd that seemed.  And I told my mom. So when I was reading her all of these comments, she said, 'Yes, I remember you telling me that...'  I personally have liked male Gyn's but I paused with this guy. Something just seemed odd. And it is a reminder why we have instincts...listen to them...

I had a C-section in 2006 which was performed by Dr. Solos.  It has been a long time since my last appt, and I realized that I was overdue for my annual.  Although I received a postcard stating that Dr. Fruiterman was retiring, it said nothing about the entire Burke office closing down.  After reading the past comments, I'm very concerned that I won't be able to obtain my past medical records.  Does anyone know where Dr. Solos' new practice is?  I would greatly appreciate it if someone would post the phone no., address, or website.  Also, I would like to know if anyone who has been to her new practice can tell me how it is.  I'm wondering if I should just find a new GYN altogether.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

If anyone is interested, I came across a deposition report online stating that Dr. fruiterman was guilty of medical malpractice in a wrongful death suit.  You can read it for yourselves at http://www.courts.state.va.us/opinions/opnscvwp/1990376.doc

Anybody know any way I can get my medical file?

Reading all of these comments about 'Dr.' Fruiterman is disgusting.  He should never have been allowed to stay in practice.  The hospital nurses could not stand him or any of the staff, just because you have doctor in your name should not mean you are not held accountable.

I am so happy to hear that Dr. Fruiterman has retired.  I am glad that no other woman will have to deal with that horrible, inept man.   I didn't care for his office either, I had to wait at least an hour or more for every single visit at his office.  Primarily I saw Dr. Solis but I had a few run ins with Dr. Fruitcake, he is run, unprofessional and a lousy Dr.  I felt he had a ax to grind with women and did not try to provide them with adequate or accurate medical care.  This man never should have been a doctor.
