Dr. Cartaya was heaven sent! Our baby girl was born with congenital CMV. It's a virus that passes through the umbilical cord and severely affects unborn children. The symptoms of this virus had me floored because first of all, I never heard of it, and secondly, the list of problems was never ending. Within minutes of our daughter being admitted into NICU for her afterbirth checkup, Dr. Cartaya noticed from afar that something was unusual with her. He examined her quickly and soon discovered the intensity of her condition. It was amazing how he knew what was wrong with her from pure inclination, wisdom, and experience. He immediately started her on a treatment plan that would eventually save her life. He was very thorough throughout the whole process. He wouldn't just tell me the good things, or just what was going on with her. No, he told me everything, the good, the bad, and he prepared me for the possible ugly. Another good thing about Dr. Cartaya was that he was always in the know with her condition, with opinions of other very successful doctors, and with the knowledge of care with everyone who had involvement with our daughter. He was very persistent with treatment and with things that I needed to do to possibly help our daughter even more. He was there day and night, whenever we needed him. I thank God for him! I thank God for putting the care of our daughter in his care along with the care of the nurses in NICU. They were all very polite, friendly, thorough, and they too helped me get through this long process. Currently our daughter is still in intensive care, but she is now in a regular infant bed, looking and doing far better than anyone could have hoped for. She is expected to come home very soon, right now, they are just monitoring her for a few days to MAKE SURE she will be fine when she does come home. Again, I thank God and Dr. Cartaya for their help in this matter!! |

Dr. Cartaya for me was in angel! He provided me with immense support and is the best neonatologist one could ask for. My baby was born nine weeks premature and even after she was discharged from the hospital, and developed some problems, Dr. Cartaya went above and beyond the call of duty to help me out. I truly believe that he is the reason my daughter is well and healthy today. God Bless him!
