Robert Pashman, MD


Robert Pashman, MD is Director of the Scoliosis and Spinal Deformity at Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders, and is recognized as an international expert in the treatment of scoliosis, spinal deformities, and complex spinal revision surgery. He is a well recognized national and international lecturer on the treatment of adolescent and adult scoliosis recently presenting at the North American Spine Society, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, IMAST Annual meeting, CSRS Annual Meeting, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons national meetings.

As a practicing spinal surgeon, Dr. Pashman has performed approximately 2,000 complex spinal deformity surgeries (scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, kyphosis, flatback) and over 1,000 cervical reconstructions and fusions, including the cervical artificial disc.

Dr. Pashman's research focuses on biomechanics and motion preservation of the spine, and the etiology of Idiopathic Scoliosis. His current clinical research includes being a co-principle investigator for the Bryan Artificial Cervical Disc, Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2, and the Threaded Interbody Fusion Device. He received the prestigious Cotrel grant for research into the etiology of scoliosis.

Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Pashman has published articles in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including Spine, Journal of Orthopedic Research, Neurosurgical Focus, and Journal of Neurosurgery. In addition, he has written numerous book chapters and abstracts.

Dr. Pashman is a member of several professional organizations, including the Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, California Medical Association, California Orthopedic Association, and the Los Angeles County Medical Association.

Dr. Pashman received his bachelor's degree from University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated cum laude, and earned his medical degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. After medical school, he completed his internship in General Surgery at Kaiser, San Francisco. Dr. Pashman completed his residency in Orthopedics at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco. Based on his research in biomechanics, Dr. Pashman was then invited to complete his spine fellowship in the prestigious Moe Fellowship program at University of Minnesota.
